Container terminal, administrative complex and railway access tracks

Ili District · Boraldai industrial zone · Aksengir station

Coteccons KZ is delivering the construction of a modern container terminal in Almaty Region — a multimodal facility that integrates rail, road and warehouse logistics into a single infrastructure.

The project is aimed at developing the region's multimodal logistics, increasing cargo throughput and strengthening the transport infrastructure of Almaty Region. The complex comprises a container terminal, an administrative and amenity complex, temporary storage warehouses, railway access tracks, cargo ramps, engineering networks and security systems.

The facility is being implemented in the Ili District of Almaty Region, in the Boraldai industrial zone, on the territory of Aksengir station, as part of the development of the Platforma Plus LLP site. The construction area is 24.3355 hectares.

Coteccons KZ acts as the general contractor and delivers the full construction cycle — from site preparation, construction management and procurement to engineering supervision, quality control, subcontractor coordination and commissioning of the facility.

Construction period: June 2025 — July 2026. At the current stage, the bulk of the works has been completed and the facility is in its final phase of implementation.

Key features of the facility

The total length of the railway tracks is 4,100 metres. The infrastructure enables the reception of railway trains, efficient cargo handling and onward transhipment to road transport.

The terminal is equipped with a modern gantry crane on a 450-metre crane track. The crane has a lifting capacity of 45 tonnes and a throughput of up to 25 containers per hour, ensuring high-speed container handling and the operational efficiency of the terminal.

The 1,150 sq m administrative and amenity complex is intended to house the terminal's management, operational and support services.

The warehousing infrastructure includes two temporary storage warehouses of 1,000 sq m and 500 sq m, providing additional capacity for receiving, storing and handling cargo within the terminal.

Two cargo ramps have been built for receiving rail cargo and transhipping it to other modes of transport. A ramp for receiving road vehicles is provided in the temporary storage zone.

The engineering safety of the facility is ensured by a fire-fighting system covering the entire territory, with a 2,500 cubic metre water reservoir. The complex is equipped with video surveillance and access control systems, ensuring the safety of personnel, transport and cargo.

Advantages of the facility

✓    Direct access to the rail network — receiving trains and transhipping to other modes of transport at a single hub.

✓    High throughput of containerised cargo — up to 25 containers per hour.

✓    Developed warehousing infrastructure — temporary storage warehouses and cargo handling zones.

✓    Reduced logistics costs through multimodality and lower transhipment.

✓    Comprehensive security — fire-fighting, video surveillance and access control systems across the entire site.

Significance of the project for the region

The container terminal forms a modern infrastructure base for handling containerised cargo, increasing the speed of logistics operations and reducing transport costs for business.

The project strengthens the logistics potential of Almaty and Almaty Region, creating a resilient point for handling cargo flows, export-import operations and developing Kazakhstan's transit routes.

Coteccons KZ delivers the project using modern construction standards, engineering control, digital solutions and an environmentally oriented approach.

Grain Terminal in Almaty

Receiving grain crops by rail and transhipping them to other modes of transport

Expansion stage of the logistics complex · Almaty Region

Coteccons KZ is delivering the construction of a grain terminal as part of the logistics complex in Almaty Region — a facility for receiving, storing and transhipping grain crops, equipped with modern elevator equipment manufactured in Europe.

The project is being implemented as part of expanding the capabilities of the logistics complex and is aimed at increasing cargo throughput, developing agro-logistics and creating modern infrastructure for handling grain crops. The terminal is designed for receiving grain crops by rail, storing them and subsequently transhipping them to other modes of transport.

The grain terminal is delivered under the EPC model — Engineering, Procurement, Construction — covering design, procurement and construction. This format ensures single-point responsibility for the entire project cycle: from engineering solutions and equipment supply to construction works and commissioning.

Project timeline: October 2025 — October 2026. The project is in its final phase of implementation.

Technological capabilities of the terminal

The terminal is being equipped with modern elevator equipment manufactured in Europe. The design capacity provides for the simultaneous storage of grain crops of up to 15,000 tonnes.

The terminal's technological layout includes two simultaneous receiving points capable of handling up to 6 rolling stock units simultaneously. The throughput of the transport equipment exceeds 200 tonnes per hour, ensuring high-speed receipt, movement and onward transhipment of grain crops.

The project includes two railway dead-end tracks with a total length of more than 1 km, enabling the reception of a full train and the efficient organisation of the grain handling process.

Advantages of the facility

✓    Broader cargo range — handling grain crops in addition to containerised cargo.

✓    High throughput of transport equipment — over 200 tonnes per hour.

✓    Full-train reception — two railway dead-end tracks totalling more than 1 km.

✓    Modern elevator equipment manufactured in Europe.

✓    Delivery under the EPC model — single-point contractor responsibility from design to commissioning.

Significance of the project for the complex

The construction of the grain terminal expands the capabilities of the logistics complex and complements the container direction with a dedicated agro-logistics block, reducing time and costs for business. The facility makes it possible to handle both containerised cargo and grain crops, increasing the versatility of the complex and its significance for business, the agricultural sector and the region's transport system.

Once construction is complete, the container and grain terminals will operate as a single multimodal infrastructure, ensuring the receipt, storage, handling and transhipment of various types of cargo.

The international company Coteccons KZ delivers the project using modern construction standards, engineering control and digital solutions that ensure the reliability and durability of the facility.
